James Hill, Coach
Coach James Hill teaches honors chemistry and International Baccalaureate (IB) chemistry at Mira Loma High School in Sacramento, California. Before moving to California, he taught upper level science in public schools and junior colleges in Virginia. James received a B.S. degree from the University of Virginia and a M.S. degree from Radford University. In addition to being the Science Bowl coach, James is also the director of the Sacramento Regional Science Olympiad. In his spare time, he enjoys playing piano, photography, his five Labrador Retrievers, growing Japanese maples, and binge-watching random streaming series. Retirement beckons, but he is not there yet; almost, but not quite! This is his twenty-third time coming to the National competition as the coach of the Mira Loma Science Bowl team!
Harish Premkumar
Harish Premkumar is a sophomore whose favorite subjects have been math and physics since middle school. He enjoys participating in science and math competitions of any kind including Science Bowl, American Mathematics Competition, F=MA, American Regions Mathematics League and American Invitational Mathematics Examination . In his free time, he loves to play videogames, read books, play table tennis, listen to music and spend time with his friends. He has been taking taekwondo lessons for over ten years, competing in many tournaments along the way, and now is a fourth degree black belt. He also is an advanced student in Indian classical music, having taken lessons for around ten years. He loves watching confusing sci-fi movies that make his head hurt and occasionally follows the National Basketball Association. After high school, he plans to study something related to the fields of physics or applied math.
Elyas Nuh
Elyas Nuh is a high school sophomore who has competed in science bowl for five years. He loves the game, and has plenty of fun while playing. While he is not participating in Science Bowl, he can be found reading about modern history, swimming, or playing chess. His favorite classes include physics, calculus, and US history, and can be found doing these for fun outside of class. He hopes to go to the University of California: Berkeley to become a geneticist. One unusual fact about him is that he keeps a regular sleep schedule, unlike many of his classmates. He strives to do well at the virtual nationals this year.
Aatreyo Bhattacharyya
Aatreyo Bhattacharyya is a freshman who is interested in the subjects of biology and math. He has competed in Science Bowl for four years since middle school. Along with Science Bowl, he loves playing Quiz Bowl and was the captain of the winning team at the 2021 Middle School National Championship Tournament. In his free time, he likes to talk to people on Discord or watch movies, especially ones related to World War 2. Aatreyo believes that LukaIsOP and that the Dallas Mavericks will eventually give him the support that he deserves. Aatreyo has found a passion for visual art, especially ones from today's world and the pop art genre. He is super excited to continue learning and represent his school at this year’s National Science Bowl.
Ashrith Beeravelli
Ashrith Beeravelli is a sophomore, with an interest in biology and astronomy. Through his participation in Science Bowl, he has become passionate about not only this game, but the vast world of science itself. Outside of science bowl, Ashrith is an extremely active person who plays multiple sports such as basketball, soccer, and badminton. He also participates in online chess tournaments, and has achieved a peak rating of 2200. He wishes to go to the University of California: San Francisco to study medicine and one day become a doctor. A fun fact about Ashrith is that he wholeheartedly supports the greatest basketball player of all time, Paul George. He is looking forward to pursuing biology, and representing his school at the National Science Bowl.
Tanay Bodducherla
Tanay Bodducherla is a freshman who is intrigued by chemistry. He has been competing in Science Bowl since middle school, and competed in the USA National Chemistry Olympiad for the first time this year. Besides Science Bowl, Tanay also is a part of his school’s Quiz Bowl team, and was on the winning team of the 2021 Middle School National Championship Tournament. Furthermore, he loves to play the piano and has been doing so since first grade, and recently has started to experiment in musical composition. When he decides that he does not want to do something productive, Tanay enjoys messing around with Rubik’s cubes, as well as watching and playing basketball (go Celtics), baseball (go Angels), and cricket with his friends. Although it is still online this year, Tanay is thrilled to represent his school at the National Science Bowl competition!
