Peer Review Policy
Research projects supported by ASCR have been selected through peer review and evaluation processes based on procedures established in 10 CFR Part 605 for the extramural, Office of Science Financial Assistance Program. A similar procedure has been adopted for ASCR-sponsored research at the DOE laboratories and the high-performance computing and network facilities. Peer review provides ASCR program managers with independent, critical assessments of the scientific and/or technical merit of research activities by practitioners with knowledge and expertise at levels equal to those attained by the researchers whose work is being reviewed. When coupled with an internal evaluation of the proposed or ongoing research activity's expected contribution to ASCR program objectives, peer review provides the critical input needed to foster prudent program decisions.
