Job Summary for DOE Computer Science Program Manager

The Department of Energy, Office of Science, Office of Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR), will be seeking a motivated and highly qualified individual to serve as a Senior Program Manager for Computer Science in its Computational Science Research & Partnerships (SciDAC) Division. The ASCR mission is to deliver forefront computational and networking capabilities to scientists nationwide that enable them to extend the frontiers of science. A particular challenge of this program is fulfilling the science potential of emerging computing systems and other novel computing architectures. This is accomplished through research and partnerships that discover, develop, and deploy the computational and networking tools that enable scientific researchers to analyze, model, simulate, and predict complex physical, chemical, and biological phenomena important to the accomplishment of the Department of Energy's missions.

The Computer Scientist in this position will help to reinvent the field of Computer Science with respect to operating and runtime systems for extreme scale supercomputing. The successful candidate will have deep understanding of the implications of emerging heterogeneous multicore architectures, including related requirements for dynamic power/energy management, deep memory hierarchies, resilience, input/output constraints, and programmability concerns; knowledge and understanding of the implications of programming models and execution models with respect to the operating and runtime systems; and knowledge of tools and techniques for constructing high performance software and monitoring/managing high-performance computing systems to support computational and data intensive science at extreme scales.

At this time, this position has not been officially posted. However, interested candidates should monitor the DOE Office of Science jobs site (http://science.energy.gov/about/jobs#programs) and begin gathering the required materials. After the position has been posted, applicants will have to submit information on qualifications and other details.
