Enhanced Facility Operations including DIII-D, C-Mod, and NSTX

Provide one time augmentations of research and facility operations at each of the three major fusion energy science research facilities including minor refurbishments to increase the reliability and scientific productivity.

DIII-D Upgrades

Enhance and upgrade several key components of the DIII-D National Fusion Facility, located at General Atomics (GA) in San Diego, CA.

C-Mod Upgrades

Enhance and upgrade several key components of the Alcator C-Mod National Fusion Facility at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

NSTX Upgrades

Enhance and upgrade several key components of the National Spherical Torus Experiment (NSTX), one of the Nation’s key centers for magnetic fusion energy research.

PPPL General Plant Projects

Provide for a critical upgrade to the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory’s (PPPL) 138 kilovolt (KV) switch gear, transformers, and associated circuit breakers, and other critical equipment which supports fusion and plasma science experiments and general infrastructure at PPPL.

HEDLP MEC Instrument Project

Fund design and construction of the Matter in Extreme Conditions (MEC) Instrument Major Item of Equipment (MIE) which will enhance the scientific capabilities of the LCLS by enabling discovery-class experiments related to basic fusion energy research.


Purchase equipment for the Neutralized Drift Compression Experiment (NDCX-II) experiment upgrade at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL).

Infrastructure Improvements for Innovative Confinement Concepts


Upgrade the experimental equipment across the ICC program.

Plasma Science Centers


Fully fund one Plasma Science Center (PSC) for a five year period and initiate funding of a second center.

Infrastructure Improvements for General Plasma Science User Facilities


Fund equipment and infrastructure improvements of ongoing work in general plasma science research.
