The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science is seeking candidates to lead its Basic Energy Sciences (BES) Materials Sciences and Engineering (MSE) Division. The MSE Division, one of three Divisions in BES, supports fundamental experimental, computational, and theoretical research to provide the knowledge base for the discovery and design of new materials with novel structures, functions, and properties. This knowledge serves as a foundation for the development of new materials for the generation, storage, transmission, and use of energy, as well as other national priorities such as microelectronics and quantum information science. Crosscutting themes within the Division include artificial intelligence, critical materials, and nanoscience. The MSE Division Director (DD) is responsible for the overall management of the Division in consultation with the Associate Director of BES. The duties of the DD include, but are not limited to, strategic program planning, budget formulation and execution, and management of federal and rotating technical and administrative staff. For more information on the MSE Division, please go to: https://science.osti.gov/bes/mse. The DD position is within the ranks of the U.S. government’s Senior Executive Service (SES). Members of the SES serve in key positions just below Presidential appointees.
