The Office of Nuclear Physics (NP) in the Office of Science (SC) will be holding the 2nd Workshop on Isotope Federal Supply and Demand.  Workshop participation is limited to representatives of Federal agencies.  The Workshop is to encourage interactions between Federal agencies and departments to avoid potential communication breakdowns that can lead to shortages of isotopes of critical strategic importance to the Nation.  The workshop will take place on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at the Rockville Hilton, in Rockville, Maryland.

This Workshop will provide a focus into the use, demand and supply of isotopes from a Federal perspective, in various areas including homeland defense, medicine, agriculture, and basic and applied research.  Participants will engage in discussions of their sponsored activities and demands for isotopes.  Discussions will also include existing supplies of isotopes, and efforts underway to increase supply of critical isotopes.  The output of this workshop will serve as input for a roadmap to increase isotope supply and mitigate shortages of critical isotopes.

The workshop is a 1 day meeting in Rockville, Maryland, in the suburbs of Washington D.C.  Keynote speakers include Dr. Parrish Staples, Director of the Office of European and African Threat Reduction, National Nuclear Security Administration, and Dr. Gerald Blazey, Assistant Director for Physical Sciences in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.  Participating agencies will discuss isotope demands important to mission achievement for the next five years.  Presentations will also be given on federal isotope supply and efforts to increase the supply of critical isotopes.
