Michael Cooke

Dr. Michael Cooke joined the Office of the Deputy Director for Science Programs as a Senior Technical Advisor in November 2020. He leads the coordination of efforts to develop and steward community open research data resources across SC. This includes developing a unified SC-wide strategic vision for research data resources and implementing that strategy in coordination with the SC programs. Dr. Cooke also contributes to strategic communications efforts across SC and serves as a lead for the PAMS Functional Working Group.

Dr. Cooke previously served as the Program Manager for Strategic Planning and Communications in the Office of High Energy Physics (HEP). While there, he contributed to HEP strategic planning efforts, coordinated with the HEP research community to develop communications materials, and supported the Intensity Frontier research program. Before joining the DOE, Dr. Cooke worked for HEP as an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science & Technology Policy Fellow. He received his Ph.D. in particle physics from Rice University and conducted research as a postdoc at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory.
