Dr. Kaitlyn (Katie) Schroeder-Spain

Dr. Kaitlyn (Katie) Schroeder-Spain serves as the Program Manager for honorary career awards in DOE Office of Science’s Office of the Deputy Director for Science Programs (SC3), including the E.O. Lawrence Award, Enrico Fermi Award, Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), and the Distinguished Scientists Fellows Program, and serves as a technical advisor to the Deputy Director for Science Programs. Prior to joining SC3, Katie was an AAAS S&T Policy Fellow (2018-20) in the Office of the Principal Deputy Director (SC2), working to facilitate international agreements for science cooperation, assist in development of policies and practices to advance diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), and support DOE leadership and SC International Science Program Priorities. Katie was a Sea Grant Knauss Marine Science Policy Fellow (2015-16) at the National Science Foundation (NSF) where she supported interagency efforts under the National Ocean Policy and supported internal evaluations for the Division of Ocean Sciences. Katie also taught and mentored undergraduate and graduate students at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi (2012-17) and University of Miami (2017-18); researched and published work on the effects of toxicants in coastal systems and physiological adaptions in fishes; and, as an undergraduate, was a Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Scholar (2008-10). Katie holds a PhD in Coastal and Marine System Sciences from Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi and a BS in Biology (summa cum laude), with a minor in chemistry from the University of North Texas.
