John Tietjen is a science teacher with over 20 years of experience teaching chemistry, physics, and physical science. John taught in Washington state for 10 years before coming to Lebanon High School in New Hampshire in 2014. In addition to his teaching position in New Hampshire, John is a Science Olympiad Coach, a lead teacher for the Learning Science Through Research (LSTR) Program at the New Hampshire Academy of Science, and an active member of the STEM education community. He is a recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) and was recognized as the 2021 STEM Educator of the Year by the New Hampshire Society of Professional Engineers. John also serves as a Conservation Ranger for the City of Lebanon, New Hampshire’s Public Conservation Areas.

John is dedicated to developing STEM education ecosystems and workforce development networks by forging partnerships between public schools and private businesses, universities, and community colleges. John has worked with local colleges and businesses to organize STEM internships, research partnerships, and science competitions. His research has been published in the Journal of Chemical Education, and he regards his work as a STEM event organizer as especially meaningful. John holds a Master of Education from The George Washington University in Educational Leadership and Administration, and a Bachelor of Science from Montana State University.
