Bridget Matamoros-Mota is the Mathematics Department Chair at Guyer High School in Denton, TX where she has taught primarily courses in Statistics and Advanced Placement (AP) Statistics for the past 18 years. Though she has also taught all levels of Algebra 1 and Geometry, as well as advanced topics such as multivariable calculus, her greatest passion lies in promoting statistical literacy to address the growing need for data fluency in the workforce. To support this goal, Mrs. Matamoros-Mota is highly involved in the AP Statistics community by leading workshops for teachers across the U.S., helping to revise the College Board’s current course framework, creating video content accessible by teachers and students online, and developing and scoring assessment items for the AP Statistics Exam. A strong advocate of STEM education, particularly for girls, Mrs. Matamoros-Mota established and has coached the Guyer Robotics Team for 15 years and the Harpool Middle School Robotics Team for 4 years, with strong female representation in both groups. The success of these programs has inspired countless students to pursue STEM majors and has increased community support for robotics, including the creation of a neighborhood robotics program for elementary students. Her commitment to providing engaging, collaborative instruction in the classroom and a welcoming atmosphere in the student organizations she sponsors is evident in her being selected as a top graduating senior Educator of Influence for 10 years. She was also honored as Guyer High School’s Teacher of the Year in 2013 and was the Texas recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching in 2019.

Mrs. Matamoros-Mota is a graduate of the University of North Texas and The Pennsylvania State University with degrees in Music, Math Education, and Applied Statistics. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University, where she established the EdD Scholars Guild, a graduate student organization dedicated to advancing scholarly discourse in education research and mentorship. Her research interests include developing methods to improve statistics education, increasing mathematical confidence in female students, and expanding project-based learning in math classrooms through robust teacher supports.
