Shawn Sheehan teaches ninth-grade Algebra I at Lewisville High School Harmon Campus. He taught mathematics for six years in Norman, Oklahoma, where he was also selected as the 2016 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year and finalist for National Teacher of the Year. Mr. Sheehan earned his BA in journalism at Arizona State University and his M.Ed. in special education at the University of Oklahoma. In 2013, Mr. Sheehan created “Teach Like Me”, a social media campaign and non-profit organization that strives to improve teacher recruitment and retention. A strong advocate for improving public education, Mr. Sheehan has been featured on CBS This Morning, NPR, and The Economist. He has served as a keynote speaker with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s Elevating and Celebrating Effective Teaching and Teachers and completed over 100 speaking engagements across the country discussing implementing a blended classroom model for struggling learners, effective co-teaching, and boosting teacher morale.
