Donna Volkmann is a high school science teacher from James Madison High School in Vienna, Virginia. Donna is serving her fellowship in the US Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science. Donna teaches AP Environmental Science and has taught biology at all levels, including English Speakers of other Languages, team and honors biology. She was the science department chair at James Madison High School for six years and sponsors the Canon Envirothon competition as well as the SEA (Students for Environmental Action) Club. Donna is an AP Reader for the AP Environmental Science exam and works with the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) preparing targeted students for success on the AP Environmental Science Exam.

Donna received her Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Virginia Tech and her Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction in Secondary Science Education, also from Virginia Tech. Donna developed curriculum for Virginia Tech’s Partnership for Research and Education in Plants (PREP) and was a co-presenter with David Lally of Virginia Tech at the International Teacher-Scientist Partnership Conference in 2013. Donna received the Golden Eagle Award from Delta Kappa Gamma in June 2015 and was named the 2014-15 Triple I (Innovate, Instruct, Impact) Teacher of the Year at James Madison High School.
