The Brookhaven Site Office is part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science, the lead federal agency supporting fundamental scientific research for energy and the Nation’s largest supporter of basic research in the physical sciences.

The Brookhaven Site Office (BHSO) is a Department of Energy (DOE) line management organization reporting to the Office of Science Deputy Director for Field Operations (DDFO). BHSO is located at the Brookhaven National Laboratory site in Upton, NY. BHSO is a technical, project, and business management organization comprised of experienced, talented, and dedicated individuals, supporting the implementation of Office of Science programs, which have two principal thrusts:

  • direct support of scientific research and
  • direct support of the development, construction, and operation of unique, open-access scientific user facilities.

BHSO’s leadership team includes the:

  • BHSO Manager
  • BHSO Deputy Manager
  • Director of the Mission Integration & Projects Division 
  • Director of the Business Division
  • Director of the Operations Division 

The BHSO mission is to successfully manage and administer the DOE performance-based Management and Operating (M&O) contract with Brookhaven Science Associates (BSA) LLC for the safe, secure, effective, and efficient operation of the Brookhaven National Laboratory. BSSO supports the SC mission to encourage and conduct forefront basic and applied research programs that advance the science and technology foundations necessary to accomplish DOE missions.

The BHSO is responsible for program implementation, acquisition management, and laboratory stewardship between the Department and Brookhaven Science Associates LLC (BSA), the management and operations contractor of Brookhaven Lab. BHSO’s experts in business, project, and operations management oversee BSA’s performance to maximize the Department’s investment and facilitate BSA’s delivery of remarkable discoveries, advanced technologies, and understanding of energy and matter.
