How to not Take Writing for Granted: Transitioning to Early Career Grant Writing
About
The goal for this webinar is to provide insights into the grant writing process for early career researchers and what reviewers are looking for in a grant proposal. This webinar will be in the form of a panel discussion with different perspectives in the grant writing process. The panelists include Prof. Chapman from Stony Brook University, along with Dr. Fecko and Dr. Schwartz from DOE. This webinar will be open to the public so please share with co-workers who could also benefit from this topic.
Speakers
Prof. Karena Chapman is currently Professor of Chemistry and Joseph W. Lauher and Frank W. Fowler Endowed Chair in Materials Chemistry at Stony Brook University. Her work is in the areas of nanomaterials, catalytic materials, battery storage materials, and synchrotron beam lines. Prior to joining Stony Brook University, she worked as a senior scientist in the X-Ray Science Division at the Argonne National Laboratory. Dr. Chapman has been involved in three Energy Frontier Research Centers (EFRCs), contributing as a collaborator, senior investigator, and project leader. She is the associate director for A Next Generation Synthesis Center EFRC.
Dr. Christopher Fecko serves as a program manager for the Solar Photochemistry program and the Fuels from Sunlight Hub. He used to manage 7 Energy Frontier Research Centers. Prior to joining the DOE in 2013, Dr. Fecko was a faculty member in the Chemistry Department of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where his research focused on photochemical processes and transport phenomena in biological systems and functional materials.
Dr. Vivian Schwartz is a program manager in the Catalysis Science Program. She manages 11 of the 46 Energy Frontier Research Centers. Prior to joining DOE as a program manager in the Catalysis Sciences Program in 2015, Dr. Schwartz worked as a Research Staff at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). During her 11-year tenure at ORNL, her research encompassed a series of activities with the goal of creating and sharing innovative solutions for nanomaterials in catalysis science.
