Cyndi Mays became Deputy Director for Resource Management (Acting) in January 2018. She joined the Office of Science in October 2010 as the Director of Human Resources and Administration. Over the course of three years, she made numerous improvements to customer service, service delivery, business automation, and process improvement. Ms. Mays then had a two-year tour with the Office of the Chief Human Capital Officer (OCHCO), where she was first detailed to the OCHCO as its lead for the Human Resources Service Delivery Study. In 2013 she was selected as the Deputy Chief Human Capital Office for DOE.

Cyndi Mays became Director of the SC Office of Management in 2015, overseeing the Office of Science Program Direction, the Human Resources liaison office, and the Office of Administration. Her portfolio includes a wide range of expertise in executive resources, staffing, recruitment, classification, workforce planning, and human resources information technology.

Ms. Mays brings a wealth of DOE and government experience to the position with a combined 28 years of public service, including experience managing organizations, projects, and people in both large and small agencies such as the U.S. Navy, National Science Foundation, U.S. Coast Guard, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, and also has human capital consulting experience in the private sector. Ms. Mays is a graduate of the Federal Executive Institute and possesses a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Arts in International Studies from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.

As Deputy Director for Resource Management, Ms. Mays is responsible for managing the following offices: the Office of Budget, the Office of Communications and Public Affairs, the Office of Grants and Contracts Support, the Office of Information Technology and Services, and the Office of Management.
