Dr. Ashley Predith is the Director of the Office of Crosscutting and Specialist Initiatives in the Office of Science. She has a strong interest in developing teams and organizations to achieve science and technology goals. She was previously a Senior Advisor in the Office, where she advanced efforts on emerging biosciences and their convergence with physical and computational sciences and national security. In 2016, Dr. Predith served as the Executive Director of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) during the Obama Administration. Her portfolio included the breadth of science and technology issues from technology development, basic research, and health, to agriculture, regulation, and national security.
Before joining OSTP as the PCAST Assistant Executive Director, Dr. Predith was the Associate Director for Programs at Nanostructures for Electrical Energy Storage (NEES), a DOE Energy Frontier Research Center led by the University of Maryland (UMD), where she developed team science activities in nanoscience and in energy storage. She earlier served in science policy and technical writing and editing roles in Washington, DC. She has a PhD in Materials Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a BS in Materials Science & Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
